Help Bring our family to Bracebridge
|
Our project to bring the Janbali family to Bracebridge took a solid step forward in early 2023. The government approved the relevant application forms and provided a “G” number for the Janbalis which allows us to tract the progress of our submission. While backlogs persist at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the BUC/Knox Refugee Partnership is encouraged by this positive advance in the process.

Refugee Partnership in the news:

The BUC/Knox Refugee Partnership invites your support in bringing the Janbali family from their home in war-torn Syria to Bracebridge. Ardawan and Ghazwa Janbali and their four children are currently sheltering in Iraq hoping to settle in our community, close to their niece, nephew and family who arrived in Bracebridge in 2017. It is a long and arduous road involving application for UN refugee status, government regulations, a committed sponsor, and community support.
At this time, as vaccines allow us to see a brighter future, we ask you to help the Janbali family escape the destruction in Syria and seek a brighter future in Bracebridge. You can make a financial contribution by clicking the donations button or you may prefer to send a cheque to the church's address above. Receipts for tax purposes will be issued.
Become involved in this community outreach project and create a positive, hopeful life for Ardawan, Ghazwa and their children. |

The BUC - Knox Refugee Partnership is made up of the following members from each of the congregations:
The partnership behind this refugee project began with a phone call between Rev. Nancy Knox from Bracebridge United Church and Rev. Dr. Heather Malnick from Knox Presbyterian Church. Both ministers felt that bringing the Janbali's from war-torn Syria to Bracebridge would provide an excellent opportunity for this family to start a new life in Canada. As the two congregations return to normalcy after the pandemic, this exciting and challenging project also reinforces the positive collaboration between two churches within our community.
As a result, a steering committee was formed:
|
From Knox Presbyterian:
- Rev. Dr. Heather Malnick
- Ann Swan - co-chair
- Elaine Heron
- Linda Ann Jewell (*Not present in photo)
From Bracebridge United Church:
- Margie Michalski - co-chair
- Peter and Kathy Wood
- Ken Turner

Both the BUC Executive Council and the Knox Session have unanimously supported this joint outreach project. Members of both congregations will be making donations and seeking financial support from the community. Each church will be organizing fundraising events and other fundraisers will be jointly sponsored. |
